Tony Khan: AEW ‘In The Red’ Now Due To Video Game Investment, Will Be Profitable By End Of Year

AEW is as close as a real threat to WWE’s popularity as they come.

All Elite Wrestling’s CEO Tony Khan recently spoke with Forbes to discuss the company’s recent success as well as how they compare to WCW in their rivalry against Vince McMahon and WWE.

“I don’t want to be the next ‘blank’ wrestling company of the past—fill in the blank,” Khan says of erstwhile promotions McMahon has vanquished over the years. “We love wrestling of the past, wrestling of the present and wrestling of the future… That’s what gives us a great chance to retain and gain audience share. I’m glad that WCW failed because it created a vacancy for us to come in and succeed but it made it a fairly bleak period for the wrestling business.”

When it comes to profits, Khan explained that due to an eight figure investment into the promotion’s upcoming video game production, the company is in the red, but claims that it won’t last very long and expects AEW to be profitable before the end of 2021.
