Stephanie McMahon recently appeared on the CNBC show, “Squawk on the Street” to discuss the return of live fans and WWE’s continuing growth throughout the pandemic era and beyond. McMahon described how WWE’s shift to Peacock, a major departure from its previous streaming model, illustrates the lesson that the company doesn’t want to compete, on a technological basis, with brands like Disney. Instead, WWE continues to focus on its content creation.
“I think one of the key lessons that we learned is that we don’t want to be competitive in the technology business against the likes of Disney and Apple and Amazon,” said McMahon. “We want to want to be competitive in terms of content because we are storytellers and that is what we do best, and that is what we’re going to focus on.”
McMahon also shared her excitement about the return of live fans; live crowds have always added so much to WWE shows, and she noted how the company hopes to bring people together and allow fans to enjoy the aforementioned content with each other.
“I’m hoping that they’re gonna see the community around them,” said McMahon. “They’re gonna have each other. It’s gonna be loud, it’s going to be explosive, it’s going to be what WWE brings, that kinetic energy. It’s gonna take you on an emotional roller coaster and do what we do best, put smiles on people’s faces and create memories that last a lifetime.”
