Goldberg vs. Big E has never happened, but the potential matchup does have history on its side if it ever came to fruition.

This week’s episode of WWE’s The Bump highlighted some WrestleMania week interviews, one of which was Goldberg. During the show, Goldberg was told about how he was Big E’s favorite wrestler and they’d previously matched the two up for their “Ultimate WrestleMania” card.

When asked if he’d be a good match for Big E, Goldberg first noted that the “prime” version of himself would be a good match for anyone. Pointing to how things are currently, Goldberg says he still believes he could have some interesting matches in WWE, then shared how he first met Big E many years ago.

“Hey, let’s be perfectly honest—a different era of Goldberg would match up against anybody,” he stated. “The question is—could this era of Goldberg match up with anyone still and have it be interesting? I think the answer is absolutely, yes.”

“Big E could bring stuff out of me that I’d want to do just to make Big E proud of me, right? So the story goes with Big E and I, that the only match I was ever late for, or I ever missed in WCW, was a match that I called in and told them I couldn’t catch the plane because I was at a signing and I had to stay until everyone was taken care of. Big E was one of the kids I stayed for, OK? So, I will never forget his face, I’ll never forget that day,” Goldberg explained, “and the fact that I made a positive impression on somebody like that, that’s been so successful at what they do, it’s an honor and a privilege for me. So, getting in the ring with him would be a different situation but it’d be really cool in its own way.”

Goldberg’s last match (for now) came in the form of a loss to Drew McIntyre at the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He has previously confirmed that he was under contract with WWE for two more years and committed to two matches per year under the agreement, so fans can expect to see “Da Man” in the ring at least one more time in 2021.
