Just a few days after Apollo Crews won the WWE Intercontinental Championship, he spoke with Rick Ucchino of Sportskeeda Wrestling. The new champion reflected on his triumph at WWE WrestleMania 37 and compared this victory to his first title win. Crews explained that when he won the WWE United States Championship last June, he was simply happy that he got the opportunity. But as the new Intercontinental Champion, he stated that he knows he’s right where he belongs.
“I look back at the guy who won the United States Championship, and he was happy to be there,” said Crews. “He was just happy to have that opportunity. Now, looking at it, I deserve this. I know I’ve worked so hard for this. This is where I belong, this is where I’m supposed to be. That’s why I’m here, because of the hard work, [and] the sacrifice.”
Likewise, Crews reflected on his victory at WWE WrestleMania 37 by wondering whether it was a dream. But he made it clear that he already has his sights set on the next steps of his journey in WWE.
“…Since Monday, I’ve been waking up and just wondering if I’m going to wake up and it’s all a dream,” said Crews. “I woke up the next day, and I was looking for the next thing, the next great thing, which is weird. I went to the gym the next day, my body was hurting, but I got up and I was looking to attach myself to what is next. I appreciate [ the moment], and like I said, it was a dream. The biggest moment easily of my career.
“So I wake up the next day, go to the gym, and immediately look for what is next. That is just the competitor inside me, the spirit inside me. Just relentless. I want to keep going, I want to make this title reign one of the best in WWE history. I want to make it a long and historic title reign.”
