Ace Austin just won the IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Championship, but he’s certainly not taking his foot off the gas.
Austin recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and explained that he’s still chasing the newly unified IMPACT World Championship. Many fans expected him to win the title at Slammiversary, and Austin explained why his loss at the show was just a delay in his destiny.
“I was ready at Slammiversary,” said Austin.” I was ready to become the youngest world champion in the history of this company, and that’s something I am still pursuing. But there was one good thing that came out of my loss at Slammiversary. I call myself ‘The Inevitable’, and that means it is only a matter of time before I am world champion. So it is inevitable that this eventually happens.”
Though he hasn’t won a world title yet, Austin is widely compared to TNA icon AJ Styles. As X-Division standouts, they have a lot in common, and Austin acknowledged this similarity. But he also made it clear that he’s carving his own path.
“I’m constantly compared to AJ Styles, and I’m compared to the best because I am the best,” said Austin. “I’m compared to him, but I am not in his shadow. I’m creating something special my own way.”
Now that the IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Championship is back around his waist, Austin’s future looks quite bright. It might be a matter of time before he’s back in the world title picture.
