Lacey Evans‘ pregnancy announcement caught many fans off guard, especially when it turned out to a real-life progression. Evans recently appeared on The Bellas Podcast, and she discussed her pregnancy. She described it as a bittersweet development because she has dreamed of having another child, but she had been enjoying a prominent role on WWE RAW.
“We’re blessed to be able to birth children and extend our families, but we also have jobs to do in sports, physical, athletic jobs,” said Evans. “So it’s kind of like a blessing and a curse. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so head over heels excited… [But] let’s throw it all out there, you can’t be pregnant with a big belly out there, kicking butt and taking names, so it’s like, it was a lot on my shoulders. Like I said, that opportunity is gone now. So I mean, there’s like pros and cons, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Evans described how she had been trying to get pregnant for months, and it finally happened. She shared how she had been open with WWE management about her hope of having another child. Evans stated how a down period in her career, where she didn’t have a featured storyline, inspired her to pursue her goal.
“So finally after just months, I got a good run with Becky Lynch, I got to do amazing things with Bayley and Sasha [Banks] and Saudi Arabia and all of a sudden, it came to, I wasn’t being used,” said Evans. “And I was backstage, which I don’t mind because I come from nothing so like, I have a good job, I’m still being able to pay my bills.”
“I’m looking at the steak and shrimp and lobster [in catering] and just thinking, man I wonder how it would work, how does it work to be a woman in WWE, when it comes to pregnancy? I am not one to just sit back and be quiet,’ Evans explained, ‘and I knock on the door and I say, ‘When is a good time? I’m not being used and I’ve always wanted to be another mom…’ I honesty went to WWE and asked, how does it work?”
Finally, “The Sassy Southern Belle” described how she learned she was pregnant just one week before the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, and the timing somewhat lined up with Vince McMahon’s vision for her storyline with Ric Flair.
“So for a couple months, I’ve tried [to get pregnant],” said Evans. “And my daughter’s eight, so we talk all the time. We’re both in the bathroom, taking pregnancy tests. Then all of a sudden, Vince has this idea with the whole storyline, so I was just like, oof, well alright, everything’s been negative, sir, you know, I’ll get back in the game and then sure enough, Sunday at 8:15, I said I’ll just continue to take pregnancy tests for obvious reasons. And Sunday at 8:15 it was positive, and it was one week to the day of Elimination Chamber.
“And I was like ah, this is great but damn it, alright. And there’s a guilt, you know, you feel guilty because there are so many people working for these storylines, from the writers to Charlotte to her father, and I’m just like dang. But what can you do?'”
Lacey Evans hasn’t appeared on WWE RAW since her pregnancy announcement, but based on her comments in this interview, fans can expect to see her again when the timing is right.
