Toni Storm Recaps How The COVID-19 Pandemic Delayed Her Move To NXT Multiple Times

Toni Storm’s journey to NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day hasn’t been an easy one.

In an interview with Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes, Storm revealed that she was supposed to move to the main NXT brand as early as March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted those plans.

“I was meant to move to America [at the] end of March, and then a week before I was set to go, Trump came up and cut all travel restrictions,” said Storm. “…In May, WWE was like, ‘Yeah you’re good to go, green light.’ So I packed up all my stuff, got rid of my apartment, went all the way to London to get on a flight, and then there was issues with border control, and I couldn’t get in so long story short, I got stuck in London for about three or four months.”

“I think I was meant to be [on NXT] quite a few months sooner, but obviously I got stuck and obviously the U.K., it’s still in a terrible state now, pandemic-wise, but it was terrible back then , so we didn’t know what was happening with NXT UK either. I was just kind of in between. I was living each day not knowing what was gonna happen or when I was gonna leave.”

Eventually, Storm finally made her way to the main NXT brand in October, and she quickly established herself as one of the most prominent heels on the brand. In the interview, Storm described why she enjoys her newfound heel persona.

“I feel like I’m more myself than I ever have been,” said Storm. “I feel a lot better just not caring and just being me.”

Ahead of her Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women’s Championship this Sunday, Storm looked back on her victory over Io Shirai. at Evolution. A lot has changed since that match, but Storm explained the benefits of this victory over the champion.

“It’s cool going into TakeOver that I know exactly how to beat Io, and I know everything about her, and it fills me with confidence,” said Storm.

Fans will have to wait and see whether Storm can defeat Shirai again at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
