Report: Jey Uso Not Cleared For WWE Royal Rumble

Jey Uso wasn’t featured alongside Roman Reigns at the 2021 Royal Rumble because he wasn’t medically cleared to compete.

According to a new report from F4WOnline‘s Dave Meltzer, Jey Uso wasn’t medically cleared for the WWE Royal Rumble on Sunday. The specific reason for Uso’s absence was not given, and his return date is currently unknown. It is worth noting, however, that Uso was not mentioned in this past week’s Royal Rumble promos, but had still been featured in graphics last week, and in the WWE.com preview as late as Sunday afternoon.

Uso’s last on-air appearance was during a loss to Shinsuke Nakamura on the January 15th episode of SmackDown and hasn’t appeared on television since then. Jey’s brother, Jimmy, is also out of action recovering from a knee injury. The initial diagnosis after surgery last year saw Jimmy’s estimated recovery timetable being in the 6-to-9 month range. It’s unclear if that’s still the current timetable, but Jey told Gorilla Position in October that his brother was “coming back in January.”
