Salina De La Renta Describes How A Suit And A Cane Made Her A Boss On Camera And Behind The Scenes

Salina de la Renta has become one of the top stars in Major League Wrestling, and she recently appeared on Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show. She discussed her journey into wrestling and her success with MLW. In one highlight, she described how buying a business suit at Macy’s transformed her career.

“Coming into MLW specifically, I remember when they called me they were like, I had just broke my leg five different times, yeah, because I was wrestling,” said de la Renta. “And I showed up with a cane. I was like, ‘Oh my god, what are they gonna do with me?’ And I remember like two weeks before the show, Alex Greenfield, one of the producers, reached out to me and he was like, ‘By any chance, do you have a business suit?’

“And I was like, ‘Um no, but I can make it work.’ And at the time I had like 60 bucks. I was like, what am I gonna do? So I ran to Macy’s, and I got like $1,000 credit card, and I bought an $800 suit, I went all out. Because my mom says you dress for the job you want, not the one you have. So I was like I gotta do this. So I showed up in my Tommy Hilfiger suit, I remember it was blue, and everybody was like, ‘Oh, you look like the boss.’

“Behind the scenes, people would start coming up to me, asking me for, ‘Hey, do you know when I’m up? Hey, do you know about this?’ People just started assuming I was in charge. And with time, Court [Bauer] was like, ‘Hey, you know, I see you do a lot. Do you just want to really like, take some more work and start getting paid for it?’ And I was like yes, actually I would love that.”

De la Renta then looked back on how she had a broken leg when she first started working with MLW. As she describes, she had to use a cane due to this injury, and it completed her character.

“I mentioned that I had a broken leg, and they were like, ‘Okay, but can you walk?’ And I was like yeah, actually, I just can’t wear heels. So I was like yeah I can, I might need to bring a cane or something, but I’ll be fine in two weeks. And my leg was just not, I had just gotten surgery, it was not cute. So I was wearing high heels and I show up,. But the cane made me look real mafia, and everybody was like, ‘Okay, yes. This is what we need.'”
