New Japan Pro Wrestling continued their dual-tournament marathon on Wednesday with the second night of this year’s Best of Super Juniors tournament. The show was headlined by a shocking upset, as El Desperado submitted Hiromu Takahashi. Desperado then got on the microphone and questioned why Hiromu is the face of the Junior Heavyweight division. “He isn’t the champion,” Desperado noted, before promising to become Hiromu’s “shadow.”
Desperado: eight matches and Hiromu’s in the main event of seven of them. He isn’t the champion! Doesn’t Ishimori have something to say about that? #njbosj

Desperado: who’s the face of this division? I’m not saying it’s me, mind. But if he’s going to be the sun, well we’ll be his shadow. The stronger he is the stronger we are, I am. So go get ‘em, Hiromu. #njbosj

Elsewhere on the show, Master Wato and Robbie Eagles had a chaotic bout, IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori snuck a rollup over Ryusuke Taguchi, and BUSHI debuted a new finisher. SHO got a convincing win over DOUKI, and remains a serious contender for this year’s trophy.
