Paige opens up about her tumultuous relationship with Alberto Del Rio and says what’s happening to him now is karma.
Paige was this week’s guest on GAW (Grown Ass Women) with Mickie James, SoCal Val and Lisa Marie Varon. During the chat, Paige referenced her relationship with former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio and the “obvious” abusive situation she was in. Paige dated (and was later engaged to) Alberto from October 2016 to late 2017, and made headlines for numerous issues including a public dispute at the Orlando International Airport.
While she denied he physically assaulted her at the time, she now feels more comfortable speaking about what she went through and says she was worried about being blamed for what happened back then.
“People victim-blame too which is crazy. I’ve never openly talked about my ex which is very out there but I’ve never talked about it. It was very obvious what was happening and very obvious what I went through, all that stuff. In the beginning, you fight back with that kind of stuff. You’re fighting back with this person, like I’m not going to take this shit from this person and it’s not how I got brought up.”
“It becomes a cycle, where if you fight back it just gets worse. You go through a stage where it’s once every couple weeks, to once a week, to every other day, to nearly every single day where something is happening to you. And it’s not just for an hour, it’s for hours. It’s up to 6-7 hours a day where you’re literally trapped in a certain room getting your ass beat every couple of minutes and [he is] doing all these crazy things to you. I never thought I’d be in that position in my life just because of the way I got brought up. I never thought that, but even the strongest people, I feel like that happens to and you should never feel bad about it.”
“That’s another thing about the internet, is again, they victim blame. Even if I don’t say anything, they’d be like, ‘It’s probably your fault and here A,B, and C reasons why…’ or just something like ‘oh that never happened, it was all your imagination’ and I’m not even saying it! I’ve never spoken about it in any context, any podcasts or any interviews, I always stayed away from it but now it’s completely out there. I’m like, ‘why am I shying away from this? Why am I not brave enough to talk about it?’”
“I’ll never say his name again because like he’s Voldemort to me and he doesn’t deserve [me saying it]. It’s karma, whatever is happening to him, karma is a real thing. You put out what you receive and right now he’s receiving what he’s put out.”
Alberto Del Rio (real name Jose Rodriguez Chucuan) was indicted by a grand jury in San Antonio, TX last month on five charges that include four counts of sexual assault and one kidnapping charge. Del Rio was arrested back in May of this year when his victim went to the local authorities after claiming that he physically assaulted her for hours after she allegedly would not admit to infidelity.
