Chad Gable recently dropped the “Shorty G” moniker, saying that he wants to go back to being a serious, Olympic-level competitor. Chad Gable now says that he’s happy he wasn’t moved to Monday Night Raw because it means that his dream match is still on the table.
Speaking with Corey Graves on the WWE After the Bell podcast, Chad Gable reveals that his next major goal in WWE is to be in the Intercontinental Championship picture and more than anything, he wants a chance to wrestle Daniel Bryan on television for the championship or for a prize of equivalent value.
“I’m not gonna say, ‘three months from now, I should be Universal Champion,’ because I don’t think that we make those kind of jumps that immediately. I do see that for myself long-term because you have to or else what are you doing? But I am very happy that I stayed on SmackDown because we have the Intercontinental title, which I think would be a great starting point for me as a singles guy,” said Gable.
He continued, “I want to get in that mix. I want to get in the mix with the guys that hold that title, that defend it all the time, and we know who I’m talking about. There’s guys like [Daniel] Bryan on our show, who I have not had a chance to wrestle yet on TV, especially in a singles match. It’s like my dream opponent that’s still wrestling. Like before he’s done, and I don’t know how long he has left or how long he plans on wrestling [but] before he’s done, I want to have that match with Bryan, whether it’s for the IC title — whatever it’s for. I want to have that match with stakes on it and I can show the world what I’m capable of.”
Daniel Bryan recently revealed on an episode of Talking Smack that his current run is his final run as a full-time competitor and he is more devoted to building the future of WWE.
