Hurricane Helms Proud Of Orange Cassidy’s ‘Freshly Squeezed’ Journey

Shane Helms is more than familiar with having a wrestling persona go off-the-beaten path and is happy to see Orange Cassidy isn’t having to go through as many hardships. His rubber match win against Chris Jericho at AEW All Out was a perfect example of such.

Hurricane caught wind of Jericho initially admitting to Sports Illustrated that he wasn’t an Orange Cassidy fan when first showing up in AEW, but once he saw how the citrus enigma caught on with the fans, it changed The Demo God’s tune.

“That’s the secret of wrestling: getting over,” Jericho said. “He’s over because he’s doing something no one’s ever done before. That’s when I pulled my head out of my a– and realized what he’s doing is great. People really respond to him because he’s the type of character we’ve never seen before, so I knew I wanted to do something with him.”

Hurricane very much sympathized with Cassidy as he made the transition from “Sugar” Shane Helms in WCW to becoming “The Hurricane” in WWE post-Invasion angle in the early 2000s.

“This is an important lesson for anyone that’s ‘leveling up,’ Helms Tweeted out. Just because you don’t ‘get’ something doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I was, at times, a victim of people not getting my character despite great merch sales and fan reactions. I’m happy to see OC not stuck in that rut.”
