David Arquette is out to show people that your goals can be reached and you can overcome anything, whether it’s as a wrestler or life in general.
Arquette recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard while promoting his new film, You Cannot Kill David Arquette, available now on video-on-demand. The new film is the culmination of two years of work, but its roots go back twenty years to when Arquette infamously won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. That decision, made by WCW and not so much David, has been a polarizing topic since it happened and now YCKDA chronicles Arquette’s return to wrestling and his shot at redeeming himself to the wrestling world.
Arquette said the reaction to the film has been great so far and hopefully, people can relate to it. He said it’s a very personal story and he wanted to let people into his world, and there’s a lot of different threads but it all ties together in the sense that he learned to believe in himself and not beat himself up anymore.
“I’m excited. It’s getting a good response. We really wanted to make a love letter to wrestling and I think that’s what it turned out to be. It’s complicated, and it’s a story that a lot of people can hopefully relate to—a story of redemption, a story of not wanting other people to define who you are. To set a goal and go after it, to go after your dreams and not let anyone stop you.”

Arquette says he’s thrilled he has the film to show the story so far, but he isn’t exactly sure he’s completely done wrestling. He initially stated he’s not sure if he’d get back in the ring before correcting himself, saying that he probably would just because he loves it that much. Arquette said he loved working with RJ City, who has a notable role in the film, but he’s not opposed to working as a manager and also said he wants to try out for the role of Jimmy Hart in the Hulk Hogan movie Pandemonium.
“Yeah, they do say that once you’re in this business you’re in it for life. I do love it and I love the business aspect of it, I love the people you meet, I love the fans, I love the wrestlers. I know it’s not off the table in any stretch. I do like that [the story so far] exists there in this movie, so I have captured it all in there, so I don’t know if I would go out again. To be honest, I probably will because I love wrestling with RJ City, that’s a lot of fun. That’s my favorite, or managing, I’m not opposed to that.”
You Cannot Kill David Arquette covers a lot of ground and it’s much more than just a wrestling documentary, with Arquette sharing his personal struggles with anxiety and addiction as well. Once people see the film, Arquette says he hopes people can learn just to love themselves and chase your dreams no matter what they are.
“Just to love yourself, to believe in yourself, to not let anything or anyone stop you. We all have our issues but we can overcome anything. One more thing—you’re a champion! I’m a champion, but you’re a champion, we’re all champions and don’t let anyone tell you differently.”
