Pat McAfee Looks Back At NXT TakeOver; Talks His Tribute To Jeff Hardy

Pat McAfee was more than happy to check off a NXT TakeOver bout off his bucket list.

The former punter turned podcast heavy hitter did a solid “For The Brand” as he battled Adam Cole this past Saturday at TakeOver XXX and there was no doubt that he surprised a lot of naysayers.

“I saw a lot of people on the Internet just start burying me,” McAfee said on his show this morning, reflecting back to when the match was first announced. “I mean, I was getting buried by people that I thought was a part of their community. I follow all the dirt sheets, like I follow all the big-time people cause I am a wrestling fan and I’m just watching all these people just bury me.”

Despite the initial blowback and the defeat, McAfee was more than pleased with his moment in the squared circle.

“It was awesome. I had a good time. Should have won, but that’s something you can just go ahead and check off the bucket list,

“I woke up yesterday a little sore, obviously,” he added about the physicality. “Foot was really sore, I kicked the hell out of those steel steps. I kicked the hell out of those things.

“Hey, that’s a rookie mistake. Those are some rookie mistakes right there. That’s gonna happen but I enjoyed the hell out of it.”

McAfee does make note of his dive and how he made sure to tip the cap to new Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy as he took that “leap of faith” onto not only The Undisputed Era, but his gridiron gang he brought along with him.

“I don’t even know if anybody saw the tribute to Jeff Hardy, I even did the ‘double guns down’ as if I’m Jeff Hardy. I had to do it into the dudes, poor guys. They were just with The Undisputed Era with wrong time, wrong people. Had to catch 240 pounds of ass coming at ya.”
