Dominik Mysterio Didn’t Feel He Was Ready To Debut At SummerSlam

Dominik Mysterio wasn’t sure if he was ready for SummerSlam when he learned about his impending debut.

Speaking with ESPN, Dominik and Rey Mysterio recalled the moment the second-generation competitor learned he’d be joining WWE’s roster and wrestling Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.

“My dad [was the one who] told me. I initially thought he was joking,” Dominik told ESPN via Zoom.”I was like, ‘What are you talking about? That’s not happening. I’m not under contract, I’m not …”

His father, Rey Mysterio, then chimed in. “You said, ‘I’m not even ready yet,'” Rey recalled, as he sat next to his son on the couch at their family home in San Diego in early August. “He thought I was messing with him.”

“I was speechless,” said Dominik. “The fact that my first official match would be at SummerSlam against Seth Rollins, it’s …”

“It’s mind-blowing,” said Rey.

Regarding criticism over being afforded opportunities because of his last name, Dominik, who was partially trained by Lance Storm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, says his hard work will speak for itself when he gets in the ring.

“There’s always gonna be people talking. They all have their own opinions, but at the end of the day they don’t know all the hard work that I’ve genuinely put in,” Dominik said. “At the end of the day, my hard work is gonna speak for itself.”

Dominik Mysterio won’t just be making his debut at SummerSlam, he will also be one of the first WWE Superstars to christen “WWE ThunderDome.” Learn more about ThunderDome at this link.
