Triple H says the sky is the limit for Australian NXT star Bronson Reed.
During Wednesday’s NXT TakeOver XXX media call, Triple H was asked about Reed’s potential ahead of his appearance in Saturday’s North American Championship ladder match. Triple H referred to the caller’s reference of Reed not being a “prototypical” guy and praised his efforts to get where he is now.
“I love the—it’s funny you say that he’s not the prototypical look or whatever, but that’s what I love about him. I love the differences in everybody and not looking for one model of what people look like, talk like, how they perform in the ring. We want them to be themselves and do their own thing. It’s hard when they walk through the door, there’s a preconceived expectation of what we’re looking for sometimes and as much as you say, ‘come on, let go and be yourself,’” Triple H said, “It’s hard to get people to do that because they think they believe they know what you want and what’s being looked for. There’s a lot of factors that go into this; intimidation factors of walking in the door, performing on a different platform, leaving home, coming into a completely different country, a different world, they’re all factors in people’s success rate and their speed.”
Triple H said Reed already had the tools to succeed and now he’s ready to succeed in the biggest way possible.
“He’s there now, he’s ready. It’s funny because there’s another guy who it’s a similar thing, Keith Lee and I were talking about it the other day. [Bronson] was in the ring doing something and Keith looked at him and said ‘I’m so proud of him, he’s come into his own in this brand recently.’
“It takes a minute for you to realize that I think, everyone has their own time frame of that I think, but then to come into your own in an environment and really become comfortable with it. I always go back to the story that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin used to tell all the time and Vince standing at the curtain watching somebody work, and Steve’s putting them over and Vince saying to Steve ‘I hope he gets over.’ And then it dawning on Steve that he’s giving him the opportunity to see what he does with it and that’s what a lot of this is, it’s about that opportunity and what can you do with it.
“For a guy like Bronson, with that opportunity, he’s knocking it out of the park every single week, and his future is bright and I can’t say enough good stuff about him. I’m excited this Saturday, he’s one of these guys that’s way up into the 300 lb range climbing an 8, or 10, or 12ft ladder, it’s not the climb it’s the coming down part that’s a bit skiffy but he can do all that.
“You usually look at the smaller guys and think there’s going to be a bunch of flips and all this crazy stuff but you look at him and there’s going to be a 400lb version of that. It’s a different game and he’s a game-changing talent in a lot of ways, I can’t say enough good stuff about him and he’s really hit a comfort level now where I think he’s ready to go and the sky is the limit.”
Bronson Reed will contend with Damian Priest, Cameron Grimes, Johnny Gargano and Velveteen Dream for the vacant NXT North American Championship this Saturday.
