Will the third time be the charm for the XFL?

Vince McMahon’s attempt to relaunch the XFL in 2020 did not go as he would have hoped. The Coronavirus shut down the league prematurely and prior to that, there was already a growing concern regarding the viewership numbers for the games. The XFL had partnered with multiple platforms to air its games including ABC, ESPN, and FOX.

Recently, it was revealed that an investor group led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his business partner, Dany Garcia, purchased the league for $15 million. Now, a new report from Michael McCarthy at Front Office Sports claims that FOX Sports once again has an interest in airing these new XFL games.

“Is Fox interested? Sure they’re always interested in (football),” said Patrick Crakes, the ex-Fox Sports executive turned media consultant. “But it won’t be the same kind of deal the Vince McMahon-backed XFL got.”

ESPN had informed the bankruptcy court that they wanted out of their TV deal with the XFL, especially because Vince McMahon would no longer be involved. They have yet to comment on their stands now that Dwayne Johnson is an owner.

WrestleZone will continue to monitor the story and report any and all updates.
