Rey Mysterio Reportedly Staying With WWE, Received An Offer From AEW

Fans who were hoping to see Rey Mysterio high-fly once more on prime-time TNT may come up disappointed as it’s being reported that the wrestling legend is staying with WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, while he can’t confirm pen to paper, he states in his latest Newsletter that Rey is sticking with Stanford and it’s close to official without being official. A big aspect of this has to do with Rey’s son Dominik who has been a prominent talent on WWE RAW as he’s been embroiled in a feud with Seth Rollins. The two just this past Monday had their SummerSlam match confirmed.

Rey did receive an offer from AEW that equaled WWE’s per-match offer, but WWE’s deal happened to be a higher because they had more dates laid out.

As of now, Meltzer mentions that he doesn’t have a time frame as to how long this deal will be for, but it will be longer than his previous 18-month contract but not as long as WWE’s typical five-year commitment.

We last saw Rey Mysterio at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules where the legend got his eye “extracted” by Seth Rollins in their Eye For An Eye bout, but it was reported by WWE from a storyline perspective that his eye appeared to be making progress at getting put back into the socket. Rey did recently make comments after seeing his son take it to Rollins this past week on Raw as the young Dominik was sure to keep the respect on the Mysterio name.

“Thank you son for defending your father & honoring the #Mysterio name! So damn proud of you & you know it, but it’s hard seeing you fight my battles knowing the risks your taking! #LoveYou #PleaseNoMore
