At WWE The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, Bayley defended the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross. Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss accompanied their respective partners to the ring. Bayley disrespectfully slapped Cross at the beginning of the match. Cross slapped Bayley, too, and Cross got a near fall with a neckbreaker. Cross got another two count with a crossbody. She also dove onto Bayley outside the ring. Bayley took control of the match and dominated the challenger. Cross crawled under the ring and regained the upper hand.

Bayley planted Cross with a Bayley-to-Belly for a near fall. A superplex earned Bayley another two count. Cross nearly stole the win with a roll-up. A running bulldog gave Cross more momentum, and a neckbreaker off the apron had Cross on the verge of victory. Bayley hit Cross with Banks’ ring and pinned her to win the match.
