Sonya Deville: I Would Love To Compete For A Men’s Title In WWE

Even amongst the most hardcore wrestling fans, intergender competition can be a tricky subject to breach. Some see it as just another tool in the toolbox, while others see it as a gimmick that cheapens the sport. Some can’t find any appeal in the matches when they do happen while others think it’s must-watch programming. However you feel about it, intergender wrestling seems to be creeping its way into the mainstream lexicon, and Sonya Deville wants to be on the crest of the wave.

Speaking with Forbes recently, the Smackdown Superstar said that competing for every belt in the company is just a matter of equality.

I’ve always been one for equality, whether it be gender, sexuality, race, religion, I firmly believe that that’s important and that’s part of the progression of the women’s evolution that’s taking place today. I mean, we’re in 2020, I think anything’s possible. And I would love to be one of the first women to kind of pioneer that concept.

The concept being intergender wrestling, something that’s only been hinted at recently in WWE. However, with former Impact Wrestling Champion Tessa Blanchard possibly eyeing a WWE deal and Charlotte Flair echoing the sentiment that she wants to ascend to the peak of all of WWE, it could only be a matter of time.

For more from Deville, including getting an LGBQ story onto SmackDown and her WrestleMania moment in an empty Performance Center, you can check out the full interview.
