Undertaker: I Am ‘One Of The Original Paul Heyman Guys’

When you think of the phrase “Paul Heyman guy”, you tend to think of pipebombs, second city saints, and the genesis of McGuillicutty. Ok, that last one is maybe just me, but hear me out. Behind the scenes at WWE and even going back to his days in WCW, the mad genius of ECW has always been one to try to push new talent when he sees an opportunity.

Every legend has to start off as a newcomer full of potential, and Heyman knows how to pick them more often than not. In an interview with Sports Illustrated concerning his recent Last Ride documentary, The Undertaker stated that he was one of Heyman’s earliest disciples. Before emerging in Stamford, Undertaker was in WCW as Mean Mark Callous, and it was Heyman who befriended him while there and used his connections to make the move to WWE happen.

Paul played a pivotal part in keeping the lines of communication open with WWE. Paul was talking to Bruce Prichard, and Bruce was talking to Vince. Paul pushed Bruce, and I finally got that meeting with Vince. So hindsight being 20/20, I am one of the original ‘Paul Heyman Guys.’
