UPDATE: Riddle’s lawyer has issued a statement claiming the WWE star is a victim of cyberstalking.
The #SpeakingOut movement going across wrestling social media can add Matt Riddle as one of the latest accused of sexual misconduct.
Candy Cartwright, wrestler and talent of WWN, took to Twitter this morning to share her story of Riddle allegedly assaulting here over two years ago during a ride in a van.
“I’m posting this because I have been so sad for so long. I didn’t realize that what he did to me was not ok. I realize now, reading these other brave women’s stories, that I can’t be afraid anymore and I have to #speakout. Back in May of 2018 I was riding with Matt Riddle and a few other wrestlers. During the van ride, when the 3 other wrestlers had fallen asleep, Matt asked me to “hop on his dick”. When I refused (although we had previously been together I was incredibly uncomfortable in that setting ) When I said no, he grabbed me by my throat, choked me and said ‘what if I just made you?’ I ended up giving him oral sex (praying someone wouldn’t wake up) to get out of having intercourse with him. It was incredibly humiliating. It is never ok to put your hands on a woman, it’s also not ok to not listen when she says no.”
Wrestling interviewer Joe Atherton then shared screenshots of a conversation he supposedly had with Riddle, in which Riddle claims his innocence and Cartwright has been harrasing him for years. The screenshots also have Riddle stating that WWE and his lawyer are pressing charges.
WWE has now released a statement on the accusations about Riddle, which happens to be the same statement for another accused talent, NXT UK’s Jordan Devlin:
“We take any allegation of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter.”
Cartwright also released several screenshots of both Matt and his wife, Lisa, corresponding with her. Cartwright denied Matt’s claims of harassment and says he’s still been contacting her and also claims he forced her to have sex without consent during an event.
