Randy Orton vs. Edge: Who Won The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever?

At WWE Backlash, Randy Orton and Edge clashed in the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. Howard Finkel’s recorded voice acted as the ring announcer for the match. The match was a stalemate early on, but Orton had the advantage because he didn’t have to battle the ring rust that Edge faced.

The doubt on Edge’s face was clear when Orton briefly gained the upper hand. Orton tripped Edge and sent him crashing to the outside. Edge took Orton down with an arm drag and grounded him by targeting his shoulder. Edge took Orton down with a head-scissors takedown and dropped him with a clothesline, which sent both men crashing to the floor. Orton was busted open, and Edge took control of the match.

Edge locked in a crossface, but Orton reached the ropes. The Rated R Superstar countered an RKO, but Orton escaped a chokehold. A neckbreaker gave Orton some momentum. The Viper bashed Edge’s head into the barricade several times. He slammed Edge’s head into the steel steps. Orton suplexed Edge onto the broadcast table. He stomped on Edge’s joints and grounded him with a headlock.

Orton shoved Edge neck-first into a turnbuckle. He paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero by hitting two of the Three Amigos, but Edge countered and hit the three suplexes on Orton. The competitors traded blows, and Orton sent Edge throat-first into the turnbuckle. Orton hit a superplex off the top rope, and both men were down. Both men collided in mid-air with a crossbody. Edge dropped Orton with an Edgecution. Two knee strikes dropped Orton. A diving crossbody earned Edge a two count. Edge locked in a crossface again, but Orton counteed it into a roll-up for a two count. Orton hit an Olympic Slam for another two count. Edge hit a powerbomb, but Orton sent him crashing over the top rope and to the floor. The Viper planted Edge with a spike DDT.

Edge countered an RKO twice and Edge hit an Edge-O-Matic for a near fall.  Orton countered a Spear, but Edge hit an Unprettier for a near fall. Orton hit a Pedigree, but Edge kicked out. Edge planted Orton with a Rock Bottom for another two count. Orton hit a stiff European uppercut and planted Edge with an RKO out of nowhere for a near fall.

Orton went for his classic punt but Edge hit him with a Spear. A second Spear earned Edge a near fall. Orton hit an RKO in mid-air for another near fall. Edge went for his chokehold but Orton kicked Edge a little low and dropped him with a Punt for the win. After the match, Orton told a tearful Edge to go home. medical officials tried to carry Edge out on a stretcher, but he refused.
