D-Von Talks Promoting Unity Amidst Continued George Floyd Protests

Despite what you may have heard on the news, the current #BlackLivesMatter protests, which started after the brutal death of George Floyd, have continued into this week and show no signs of slowing down. On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray called into “his brother” D-Von alongside Mark Henry to talk about how the community can come together and enact real change out of this chaos.

In the clip embedded below, Mark Henry evokes the past civil rights heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King. D-Von thinks that we need someone like that to direct the crowd’s fury at the system.

We need to get some of the leaders that we have here now. I mean, you know, we don’t have Dr. King anymore, we don’t have Malcom X, we don’t have some of the great leaders of yesterday that led these peaceful marches and that got results out of it. We’ve got people like, and again, you know people may not agree with his presidency. Or how you know, he did things and there were people that did agree with it, but you have Obama who is extremely respected in the African community. Michelle Obama, same thing.

We need leaders that are respected in the black community that black people will listen to and heal and be able to understand from people like Obama and Michelle and so many other you know, African American leaders that are today we need to all get-together and basically go out there.

D-Von continues by suggesting that the various marches around the country need to coalesce into a “million people march” with a clear message. “We have to be able to shut this down and make sure that, from this point on, everyone who does things likes this, they are going to be held responsible for their actions.”
