Christian On Not Wanting An In-Ring Return: ‘I Don’t Feel The Need To Go Back’

Before WrestleMania 36, when Edge and Randy Orton’s feud was coming together, many assumed that Christian would somehow be involved. The TLC innovator fit perfectly into the story they were telling, especially after Matt Hardy’s impassioned performance on the way out the door. That never happened, and it was never in the works. Speaking with talkSport, Christian said that both his injuries and his passion keep him from jumping back into the WWE spotlight.

My situation is much different than Daniel Bryan’s. He was, what, in his early 30s when this happened? I was in my 40s, so very different parts of our careers, and I feel like I’m content with what I accomplished. I just don’t feel the need to go back and dip my toes in the water at all.

Christian left full-time competition back in 2014 due to ongoing concussion worries. He’s on the internal “no-contact” list, meaning that any appearance he does make would likely be less than satisfying for all involved. When asked if he would want to go back to back up Edge in any way, he gave a somewhat jokey response:

Yeah, if he could go in there and do all the wrestling and I could stand in the corner and do nothing, that would be great. It’s exciting for him.

On a more serious note, Christian says that he’s happy with what he did accomplish, and he doesn’t have the same drive as Edge or Bryan to prove himself even after years away from the squared circle. “It’s hard to go out there and not be able to do anything, and I think that was kind of the mindset of it.”

While he’s not eyeing an in-ring return at all, Christian said he wouldn’t rule out an on-air appearance if it made sense. Christian recently spoke with Wrestlezone and said he wouldn’t turn down a chance to work with Edge on screen if it made sense.

“If it made sense storyline-wise, for sure. Obviously, Edge is dipping his toes back in here, but they are also very different injuries. His was structural and mine was concussion [related]. I’m not sure how you would ever get cleared if you’ve been medically disqualified from something like that. I’m also pretty content with my career and how it went, but who knows? I would never turn down a chance to work with my best friend again. You never know, we’ll see what happens down the line.”
