Vince McMahon Sued By Former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck For Wrongful Termination

The fallout from the XFL’s canceled season continues, as Vince McMahon is now being sued by the league’s former commissioner.

According to a new report (via The Athletic‘s Daniel Kaplan), former XFL commissioner Oliver Luck filed to sue McMahon as league owner for wrongful termination in Connecticut last Thursday. Luck is suing for unspecified damages, believing he is owed money as part of his contract he signed in 2018 as league commissioner.

The (heavily redacted) complaint states Luck believes:

“despite fulfilling his obligations as Commissioner and CEO since May 30, 2018, Mr. Luck was wrongfully terminated by Alpha Entertainment LLC (“Alpha”), an affiliate of Defendant, on April 9, 2020. Thus, Alpha has repudiated Mr. Luck’s employment agreement. Mr. Luck brings this action for breach of contract and declaratory judgment against McMahon.”

It was previously reported that Luck had signed a multi-year deal, with ActionNetwork.com’s Darren Rovell noting that his sources estimated the deal to be worth $20-25 million over five years. It was also mentioned that Luck’s contract included a clause that stated he would be paid the remaining balance owed if he were terminated without cause.

The league officially filed for bankruptcy on April 13; the 2020 season was already canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
