The TNT Championship Tournament is the current running thread throughout AEW programming. You’ve got Cody seeking singles gold, Lance Archer and Jake The Snake hunting the EVP down, Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin settling their differences, and then there’s Dustin Rhodes. The wrestling journeyman has shown that he can still hang with today’s stars, but sometimes that’s not enough. In a preview clip from Monday’s “Road to TNT Championship”, the former Goldust vows to hang up his boots if he can’t overcome Kip Sabian in their matchup.
Shocking clip from the next episode of “Road To”:
“If I cannot beat that son of a B***h, I will retire.” – @DustinRhodes on his TNT Championship Quarterfinal match up with @theKipSabian

Hearing the news, current Dynamite commentator and legend in his own right Chris Jericho released a statement of his own. He mentions that he sees that Dustin has doubt, and that doubt will ensure his defeat. “You had a great career, my friend. But this week, it’s done.”
Looking forward to commentating the last match in the stellar career of @dustinrhodes this week on @AEWonTNT! pic.twitter.com/T7zCgeSnL2

MJF also chimed in with a statement that’s a bit more succinct.
Thank god.
Good riddance. https://t.co/mcgxd1h4jN

Of course, looking at the tournament bracket, many fans already expect Dustin to overcome this challenge and take on Archer in the semifinals. It would make sense that Dustin would feel devastated to lose in a match that seems like an easy hurdle. Will Kip be the “son of a b*&$h” that Dustin describes him as and take him out of action? Or will Dustin have to face the Muderhawk Monster? We’ll find out this week on Dynamite.
