Ring of Honor continues to announce the participants in its Pure Championship Tournament, an event that will crown the belt’s first holder since 2006. Already filled to the brim with legendary ROH stars, the company is now bringing in one of the most legendary in all of New Japan. Yuji Nagata, a storied veteran of Japanese wrestling, will compete in this year’s tournament.
Nagata holds a unique distinction that could help him in a tournament atmosphere. He’s the only man in all of Japan to win NJPW’s G1 Climax, AJPW’s Champion Carnival, and Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Global League. He’s also the fifth-longest reigning IWGP Champion of all time, but all those accolades haven’t translated overseas. Despite a yearlong stint in WCW, he’s found little success in America.
