Booker T spoke with Sports Illustrated in a bit to promote his upcoming return to the ring in his own Reality of Wrestling promotion this coming Saturday. As part of the conversation, Booker turned the focus to Drew McIntyre, who earned a huge title match with Brock Lesnar at this year’s WrestleMania.
Booker feels a bond with this year’s Mania main eventer, saying that he relates to the dues Drew had to pay. “I was that guy once upon a time, so I know exactly how Drew feels right now. It will be one of those stories where the guy who worked his ass off gets rewarded, and it will be awesome.”
Booker, who worked years in WCW before getting into the world title picture, is looking forward to seeing a similar story play out in modern WWE. Drew paid his dues.
He’s a guy that got fired, had to go out there and find himself, then work his way back up. Drew is a guy that was once labeled ‘The Chosen One,’ and then all of that fell through. To see him back, it’s only fitting to close WrestleMania with that match.
