CM Punk Says The Rock Calling Him Live On WWE RAW Resulted In A Brilliant Moment (And Couple Of Broken Headsets)

During the CM Punk panel at Starrcast III, Mike Johnson of the PWInsider asked Punk about the moment The Rock tried to call him the one night The Rock was on RAW at the Staples Center. Punk goes into detail about the moment and says that he was caught in his apartment elevator at the time and it just ended up being a form of miscommunication.

“I was in the elevator going to the bottom floor to walk Larry [Talbot, his dog]. Yeah, this is honest to God true fuckin’ story. I was in the elevator, no reception in the elevator. My phone, no messages. I get in the elevator, it’s a really slow elevator, like sixth floor. By the time it gets down and I walk out, and I walk out the front door of my apartment building I have 87 messages on my phone, and I’m like, I think somebody’s dead. So I’m like ‘Oh my God, what is going on? What is this strange number?'”

Punk then says how it was only someone like The Rock that could get away with a situation like that and why it was a brilliant move on his part and what he heard from friends about the reaction backstage.

“See this is the brilliant thing about him, this is how smart he is and this is why nobody else in this situation would have been able to do this. It’s like he recognizes that, ‘Okay, these people aren’t gonna shut up. They’re not going to stop chanting CM Punk.’ So he goes along with it and it was fuckin’ brilliant. Cause guess what? They got their shot, they finished finished the fuckin’ thing and he created a hell of a fuckin’ moment. He made all of the people feel like, ‘Fuck yeah, that was awesome.’ It was a cool moment It’s just brilliant. It shows you what a smart guy he is. And yes, I did hear, it was part of the text messages I was getting, a couple people backstage were like, ‘It’s crazy back here right now. Couple of broken headsets. Shit’s flying everywhere.'”

Punk also mentions how this moment led to The Rock and he sort of clearing the air about their time together on RAW and how it was a relatable situation for both of them. You can watch the video of a segment of the panel below:
