Kevin Owens is putting his career on the line at SummerSlam but before he battles Shane McMahon he talked to Yahoo Sports. The fan-favorite wrestler talked his initial return from injury, how it felt to miss WrestleMania and being a face in WWE.
Check out some highlights below:
On missing WrestleMania and his initial return:
It’s been a bit of a roller coaster. I was really excited to come back after five months off and I didn’t make it onto WrestleMania, which was a very tough pill to swallow. Now I’m kind of back to doing what I pictured myself doing when I initially came back. Everything has been a blast except for not being on WrestleMania. It was great to be involved with [The New Day] and get to work with some people who I hadn’t gotten the chance to work with.
Why time off wound up being a positive:
The five months off were as necessary for my knees and recovering from the surgeries I had as they were for my mental state, honestly. I had been on the road non-stop for four years. It doesn’t seem like that much, but it adds up rather quickly. When you’re as obsessed — I think that’s the best way to describe it — as I am, it’s constantly on my mind, probably even when it shouldn’t be.
Cutting promos that resonate with the fans:
This whole thing came from me speaking my mind, I guess. It’s blossomed into this whole thing. When I first came out and said those things about Shane, I really did not — you can believe this if you want — but I didn’t expect any of this to happen, it was something I was just doing for one night. It’s been pretty cool to see the movement that has been developing in the arenas and I have a belief of what I can accomplish in WWE still.
