CM Punk is appearing at Starrcast III in Chicago next month. Starrcast’s social media accounts posted a new promo video (seen below), confirming the appearance.
Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso is reporting Punk will now be featured as the headlining guest at the event on Saturday, August 31. His appearance at Starrcast includes a one-on-one interview, as well as meet-and-greets that same day.
“A highlight is easily anytime anyone has a story,” Punk told Sports Illustrated. “I do about one signing a year and the best part is always finding out how you’ve touched people’s lives in a meaningful way. A lot of it can be heavy; helped someone get clean, helped somehow with the loss of a loved one. I am always touched to know the private intimate stories people have.”
“Knowing the weekend will be attracting fans from all over the world for AEW, and since I normally only do one signing a year, it’s a great way to maybe meet people that normally I wouldn’t get the chance to otherwise,” said Punk. “Looking forward to meeting everyone there.”
Despite speculation, it’s worth noting that Punk’s appearance is only for Starrcast, not AEW’s All Out pay-per-view that night. Punk’s status and a hypothetical return to wrestling has been a hot topic, with a few of AEW’s EVPs saying they’d be open to the idea of Punk joining them. Cody Rhodes recently told ComicBook.com‘s Connor Casey that the “door will forever remain open to CM Punk” and the Young Bucks told Chris Van Vliet that they’d love to have him, but the timing might not be right.
Amid all the speculation about Punk’s possible link to the promotion due to All Out being in Chicago, a source speaking with Wrestlezone said talks were “not to a serious point yet” but there was discussion about bringing Punk in. It was noted that All Out might not be when we see him with AEW (if we did at all), but the “aim was more for something their TV debut” in October. Today’s announcement will certainly do nothing but fuel the flames on Punk’s potential return to wrestling.
