The Young Bucks spoke with the media following last night’s Fyter Fest event in Daytona Beach, Florida, and one point of contention was about Cody Rhodes taking an ‘unprotected’ chair shot from Shawn Spears on the show.
Nick Jackson of the Bucks said the audience ‘thinks’ it was unprotected, but would leave it at that, and said they’re still not sure how it went wrong:
“Oh yeah, That was all Cody’s idea. See, I didn’t even know what happened, to be honest. All I know is he did get staples, so I’m going to have to look back and I’ll have a comment on it later. I don’t even know—I do know that they ‘gimmicked’ the chair and it clearly didn’t work because he was bloodied.”
Additionally, the brothers were asked about the potential of seeing more ‘one off’ events like Fyter Fest compared to seeing more annual event themes. They said it might be hard to replicate Fyter Fest due to it being a parody of a timely event, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility to do more standalone shows:
Nick: This one in particular was probably a one and done I’d imagine.
Matt: I think a year from now nobody will remember what ‘Fyter Fest’ was anyway, so it’d be like an old joke.
Nick: We’re definitely doing ‘Double Or Nothing’ all of the time, annually, once a year. I don’t know, I guess we’ll see.
Matt: We’re such a baby company now that I don’t even know if I can give you a straight answer. I don’t know. We’re still trying things out. The plan—it would be nice to have some annual shows. I would love to go back to Vegas and do a ‘DoN 2’. Chicago every late August or September, wherever it falls, because that’s always a fun one.
Do they see Daytona Beach as more of a ‘short-term’ thing?
Matt: This was great, I really like this building. Nick and I were just reminiscing about how we hadn’t been here since ’10.10.10’, Bound For Glory, the TNA show. We wrestled the Motor City Machine Guns.
Nick: Every famous wrestler ever was on that card—Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy—and they drew 3,500. We outdrew that. So, it’s definitely possible that we could come back.
Matt: I like this place, it’s cool. It doesn’t seem like it’s overrun and overpopulated. I was like ‘this is a beach town in the middle of summer, it’s going to be packed, right?’ and it hasn’t been that bad. We went to the beach yesterday, the water was warm, this place is pretty kick ass. Maybe we’ll come back.
