Davey Boy Smith Jr spoke with the media after his appearance at the ‘Remembering Owen’ panel at Starrcast with Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Mark Henry.
Davey Jr talked about some of the celebrated memories he had learning from Owen Hart, and says he hoped the panel was well-received by everyone in attendance. When asked about the panel’s lineup and what they meant to Owen, Smith said Bret Hart would have been a welcome addition to the stage, but he can’t think of anyone better to represent Owen and called Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Mark Henry the best guys and doesn’t know “that you could have found anybody better.”
Growing up, Smith said he learned gymnastics and amateur wrestling techniques from Owen, saying he enjoyed all of the time they did get to spend together.
“For sure. He had showed us—us being myself, Tyson Kidd and Teddy Hart, his younger brother Matt—some basic gymnastics about doing a backflip off of the top rope. Of course you can remember that when he would do that as his entrance as the Blue Blazer. I was young at the time, so I could do it off of the second [turnbuckle], but Teddy mastered it the fastest out of all of us, then TJ did and I did later on myself. He also taught me how to kip up—it’s all in the hips and momentum.
He also taught me some amateur wrestling techniques when I was younger. Those memories I cherish, but I wish I could have had some more time spent with him. He was always on the road, but the time I did spend with him I cherished and appreciated.”
