Batista: ‘I Went Broke When I Did Not Re-sign With WWE In 2010’

Batista is officially retired from being a WWE Superstar after falling to Triple H at WrestleMania this year. He recently participated in the Denver Pop Culture Con where he had some interesting things to say. Batista noted that he struggled mightily back in 2010 when he decided not to renew his contract with WWE. “I starved for three years. I went broke. I lost everything. I couldn’t get a job and I said that I will never go back to wrestling until I prove what I set out to prove, and that was that I can make it as an actor.”

People may wonder why Batista decided he wanted to pursue an acting career, and according to The Animal himself, it was after he realized he was horrible at it. “I had zero interest in acting, all I wanted to do was wrestle. I loved wrestling, I was obsessed with wrestling, and I went and did a film as a favor for a friend and I realized I was horrible. I was a horrendous actor. I was so mortified that I wanted to prove I could be better. WWE would not allow me to do anything outside of the company.”

Batista would eventually get a role on Guardians of the Galaxy and after he finished filming he immediately called Vince. “I finished the film and the first call I made after I wrapped was to Vince McMahon. I told him I wanted to come back and wrestle for a little bit.”
