Bret Hart and Tom Magee Talk Their Famous Match at Starrcast

WrestleZone’s own Ross W Berman and Bill Pritchard are on site at Starrcast, and they’ve provided a handy recap of one of the most intriguing events of the show. Bret Hart and Tom Magee are sitting down years and years after their recently discovered storied contest. The panel includes the pair watching the WWE-produced documentary and offering commentary.

The match was rediscovered by wrestling fan Mary-Kate Anthony this past March and later confirmed to be the encounter Bret Hart wrote about in his book.

During the panel, Bret gave more details on the encounter. He admitted that he hadn’t seen the documentary until today and joked that the tape was somehow “stolen” from his archives. Mary-Kate admitted after the panel that she did receive it from his archives, but was given it willingly by Bret’s assistant.

Bret says they went over the match, woth Bret asking Tom for three moves. Bret told Tom to listen to him and follow his lead. We’re now watching THE match #Starrcast

For the record, I did not steal that tape from Bret’s home, office or anywhere else. This was a tape that belonged to his former assistant Marcy & given to me from her Calgary office to convert to DVD & told to keep. I’m glad the world was able to see it.

At the time, Tom was seemingly in the dark about Vince’s love for the match, but Bret heard that Tom was poised at one point to become a champion.
