“The title design was the least of the issues. No matter what you pull out…I mean, I was there with Stephanie when we unveiled the Universal title, and the crowd…at SummerSlam a few years ago, just spent the rest of the match chanting about how the belt was stupid,” he said of the reaction. “So no matter what you pulled out of there, unless it was going to be that old Hardcore title, it was going to be met with some disinterest.”
From there, Foley discussed how it was a bit frustrating and “terrifying” once you realize the crowd isn’t exactly happy about the situation. He then discussed what he would have changed about the announcement of the belt. “I wouldn’t have come out with a real serious intent, when it’s going to be a humorous belt or title,” he said. “So I would have changed a few things, but I will say I get to pick and choose what I get to do, so I could have declined. And I do believe, it’s going to catch on.”
