Velvet Sky On Taking On A More Managerial Style Role In ROH, The Allure’s Issue With Quinn McKay

Velvet Sky recently spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam and talked about working with ‘The Allure’ in Ring Of Honor. The former two-time Knockouts Champion says she’s still retired and that hasn’t changed, but she sees herself being able to contribute to professional wrestling in a big way. Velvet said she had her own reasons for calling it quits with IMPACT three years ago, but still gets to see fans and says she sees herself as a mouthpiece for her new group, directing traffic while Mandy Leon and Angelina Love take care of things in the ring.

“I still stand as being retired in the ring. Back when I announced that in 2016 I made it clear that I retired from in-ring action only. I love the wrestling industry, I always have, but that time came in 2016 where my contract with IMPACT was coming to an end and I just wasn’t having fun anymore. No one understands unless you’ve been through the doors there. I’m not making it sound like it was a bad experience there, because it wasn’t. I embraced my time there. I had a ball my entire career there, but there comes a time in everyone’s life for whatever reason you’re just not having fun anymore.

It had a lot to do with management. I’m not going to get into that because I’m not going to go on a tangent about that, but it had a lot to do with how the wrestling industry shifted. I wasn’t happy with management, my contract was up, so I was like ‘you know what? Now’s the best time. I’m healthy, I never suffered any real injuries in the ring’ and I just felt like it was time to walk away. I didn’t want to just go out there and work the independent scene and just bump night after night for no reason. As a professional wrestler you just have to know your limits and you only have so many bumps on your bump card. Any wrestler will tell you that.

So mid-2016 I announced my in-ring retirement, but I made it clear that I would still be around for the fans to do meet-and-greets, autograph signings, just be involved in the wrestling industry in a non-wrestling role. That’s still my stance, and I’m in a non-wrestling role in The Allure. I’m more the managerial mouthpiece, directing traffic, and Mandy and Angelina are going to be the ass-kickers of the group. We’re The Allure as a group, but we also have our own individual identities as Angelina being the bad ass, me being the brains and Mandy being the bombshell.”

The Allure immediately targeted Women Of Honor Champion Kelly Klein, but they’ve also set their sights on new ROH backstage interviewer Quinn McKay. Velvet gave McKay props, but said they’ve been picking on her because she doesn’t know her place yet:

“She’s super young, she looks like a waitress at Red Lobster. She’s learning the ropes of this new role of being a backstage interviewer and I’ll give her credit where credit is due—she’s doing a very good job in her role, but she needs to learn her place. You don’t just interrupt us, especially if we’re having a crisis in the locker room. For instance, the other day after Kelly Klein sneak attacked Angelina Love and we were moaning about it in the locker room, in comes Quinn McKay unannounced—didn’t even knock! She tried to interrupt and just get her little interview in, and if she’s going to do business the right way, we will respect her and give her an interview. if she’s going to do things her way, which is not the right way, then we will continue to embarrass her just like we will continue to embarrass the rest of the Women Of Honor who get on our bad side. Quinn McKay is no different, but she’s an easy target.”
