Drew McIntyre On If He Likes His Nickname, Having His First Singles Match At A WrestleMania

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre was recently interviewed by Sporting News to talk about several professional wrestling topics. McIntyre explained whether or not he likes his WWE nickname, “The Scottish Psychopath,” and talked about having his first-ever singles match at a WrestleMania this year with Roman Reigns.

Here are the highlights:

If he likes his “Scottish Psychopath” nickname:

I never called myself a psychopath. It was someone else. I think Dolph [Ziggler] maybe called me that initially when I first showed up and was taking everybody out on Dolph’s behalf. He referred to me as a psychopath and inevitably we were feuding with Rollins and Dean Ambrose returned as the “Lunatic [Fringe],” so I guess it took a lunatic to counteract a psychopath and it seems to have stuck.

So, nobody names themselves the psychopath. I like the “Terminator” because I’m cold and calculated, but I guess I can get pretty intense and crazy out there, so therefore, they called me the psychopath (laughs).

Having his first singles match at a WrestleMania:

It was one of the coolest and proudest moments of my career, especially after everything that’s happened and the journey that I’ve taken to return to WWE and NXT and become NXT champion and, unfortunately, get the injury and return to ‘RAW.’ This was my first year, my first WrestleMania back and to get my first singles match, but not just a singles match, it was against Roman Reigns.

And not just Roman Reigns, but Roman Reigns returning from a horrible illness. That told me the company has trust in me. Roman is one of, if not the top guy, so it’s cool to have that show of faith considering everything I’ve been through throughout my career and to get that opportunity was pretty cool. It told me I was on the right path and while I couldn’t get the ‘W’ that night, there’s no shame in losing to Roman at WrestleMania. He beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania and I’ll have his number next time.
