The Hannibal TV recently got a chance to speak with Ata Johnson, the mother of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, about her son and how she’s been in the world of wrestling for most of her life, thanks to her mother and father being wrestling promoters. All in all, she’s been in the wrestling business for 50 years, and is the mother to one of the most successful wrestlers ever.
Speaking in the interview, Johnson actually revealed that she didn’t want her son participating in wrestling at first. Ata notes that at first, Dwayne was playing football for the University of Miami, and that when he decided he wanted to wrestle, she was unsure. “I just wasn’t sure about him getting into wrestling. I knew he would be a natural because he grew up with wrestling holds and going to wrestling.”
Later in the discussion, Ata mentioned that she does miss seeing her son in the ring, and that she’d love to see him come back to take on the likes of John Cena. “I miss him in the ring, I’ve been watching him all these years, and I think he’s really great at what he did,” she said. “I’d love to see him come back one more time and lay the smackdown on John Cena. I totally enjoyed their matches.”
Although it seems like The Rock is pretty happy in Hollywood, his mother did note that he still has love for the world of wrestling. “Dwayne loves what he’s doing now, and he misses this business as well, because this was his life.” Ata went on to talk about her favorite matches involving her son and what movies of his she’s enjoyed, so make sure to check the entire talk out.
