Kofi Kingston vs. Kevin Owens Made For WWE Money In The Bank

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston opened tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown. The champion was interviewed by Michael Cole, who asked him if he ever thought he’d get his title shot at WrestleMania 35. “I’m so glad that I chose to fight through because I’m standing here as your WWE Champion,” said Kingston. “I got to do that with my brothers Big E and Xavier because without them none of this happens. We are the guys that proved the impossible is possible!”

The topic eventually changed to last week’s assault by Kevin Owens. Kingston admitted that he “I’ve got to put a lot of the blame on myself. We in the New Day, we believe in giving people second chances … we believed that Kevin Owens genuinely wanted to change, but at the end of the day [he’s] going to be Kevin Owens. If he wanted to challenge me, all he had to do was ask, so what I say is this: he said he was coming for the WWE title, so let him come. Let’s do it at Money in the Bank! … I’m not afraid of Kevin Owens.”

That led to Owens coming out, who quickly said “Challenge accepted, Kofi.” Owens went on to state that the fans don’t believe Kingston is championship material and that he’s in over his head. Xavier Woods attempted to attack “KO,” but Owens got the upper hand and then fled backstage after Kingston came to defend his friend.
