Kurt Angle wrestled his last match in the ring at WrestleMania 35, losing to Baron Corbin in a hard-fought battle that left fans standing and applauding for the longtime superstar. While Angle may be remembered for his many victories, he did say he would have liked to come away with a win for his last match.
Speaking to his fans in a Q&A session on his Facebook page (via Fightful), Angle admitted that he would have rather had won his match against Corbin, but acknowledged that his job as a veteran superstar is to help the younger stars as they come into their own.
“Honestly? My Wrestlemania 35 match. I would have liked to go out with a win, but I understand why it didn’t occur,” he said. “But my argument as to why it should have been Corbin is pretty strong. As a HOFer and Legend in WWE, I came to my final match last Sunday. It was my retirement match. As a legend or HOFer or- whatever you want to call me, my job is to leave the WWE by doing the honors for a younger talent. I did that. I would have loved to have won, but I don’t think I would have properly played my role if I did. You leave the company better than it was before you came.”
Angle has already admitted that he would have liked to face John Cena one last time, but with the superstar and future Hall of Famer now retired from in-ring competition, his job will be to help the future of the WWE rise.
