Speaking to the Sports Business Journal ahead of WrestleMania 35, Stephanie McMahon revealed that the WWE tries to script stories a year in advance, with Triple H also there to note that sometimes chaos can cause an even better story to come out of a bad situation.
In the interview, McMahon discussed how the WWE generally plans out events. “We try to have a basic plan a year out. But, inevitably things happen and storylines change,” she said. “Another beautiful thing about WWE is because we are live 52-weeks a year, we have no offseason, we have no re-runs, and we essentially have a live focus group every single night at these live events telling us what’s working, what’s not working, and what they don’t care about. So we can shift and adjust our plans as needed.”
Triple H then jumped in, making sure to note that the WWE is dealing with athletes and their injuries often, and so sometimes the chaos of an injury can result in a better storyline possibly coming up. “And you’re dealing with athletes, and you’re dealing with injuries, and the ability to shift and pivot to where you want to go,” he said. “I was told this earlier in my career, that beauty comes out of chaos a lot, and sometimes you get in a situation where the worst possible things happens…it leads you to come up with something even better.”
