Velveteen Dream Retains NXT North American Title, Shocks Matt Riddle

NXT Takeover: New York continued to wow fans, as the second match on the card saw Velveteen Dream shocking the crowd and Matt Riddle by retaining the NXT North American Championship thanks to some crafty moves.

In a match that showcased why both superstars are some of the brightest faces in NXT, Velveteen Dream and Riddle both came out of the gate hot. Riddle attempted multiple times to get Dream to tap out via submission, locking him in multiple ankle locks and Bromissions. Unfortunately for Riddle, Dream wouldn’t be denied, and was able to get out of any hold that Riddle placed him in.

After trading blows and rallying the crowd in their favor (including a sequence where Dream literally Hulked up), Riddle seemed to finally get the upper hand, hitting Dream with a floating bro and a flash knee before locking him in a Bromission. Just as it seemed that Dream was ready to tap out, he managed to roll the pair over and pin Riddle down, stealing a victory and retaining his title in dramatic fashion.
