At the upcoming NXT TakeOver: New York, Johnny Gargano will take on Adam Cole in a match that will determine the next NXT Champion. In an interview with WWE.com, Gargano talked about the upcoming match, his NXT career, and why he feels like the title match is a must-win.
For Gargano, the chance to become NXT Champion isn’t just big, it’s a something he’s been striving to do for the last four years. “It’s a mix of emotions, honestly. I feel like everything I’ve been through — not just this past year, and not just the past four years for me in NXT, but since I was 8 years old, when I had this crazy dream to become a wrestler — has built to this one moment in Brooklyn,” he said when asked how it feels to be in a match for the championship.
When it comes to what fans can expect at NXT TakeOver: New York, Gargano was coy but said that he knows this is a special moment, and that he has to do everything he can to walk away as the champion. “So, for me and the NXT Championship, it’s now or never,” he said. “I believe it is my destiny to be NXT Champion.”
When the time comes for both Gargano and Cole to step into the ring for their 2-out-of-3 Falls Match, both will be ready, and Gargano will be looking to fulfill a dream he’s had for some time.
