On NXT TV, Triple H was the one carrying Goldie out to the ring. Due to Ciampa’s unfortunately timed neck injury, his planned defense against Johnny Gargano for TakeOver New York isn’t happening. Hunter explained that he was originally coming to NXT to announce the title match, but now he had a different message to impart.
Johnny Gargano will still compete for the title at TakeOver, but he needs a new opponent. Later tonight, five of NXT’s finest (but not Kona Reeves) will compete in a one fall to a finish match to determine Johnny’s opponent. The competitors include Ricochet, Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream, and Matt Riddle.
With Ricochet and Black already making their presence felt on the main roster, you can expect them to make good showings, but it’s any of the other three’s match to lose. The winner will move on to TakeOver to fight Gargano in a two out of three falls match. This stipulation will ensure a strong and definitive champion coming out of WrestleMania weekend.
