Vince McMahon: Kofi Kingston Has To Win A Gauntlet Match Next Week To Earn Title Shot

As advertised, Vince McMahon appeared during the final segment of WWE SmackDown to discuss the WrestleMania 35 future for Kofi Kingston. Earlier in the night, The New Day caused mayhem by attacking several tag teams and showed that they weren’t happy with the WWE President’s shenanigans.

“I’m here tonight to give you what you want,” opened McMahon. “I’m here to give Kofi Kingston an opportunity to compete at WrestleMania 35 for the WWE Championship.” He then explained his actions from Fastlane. “When I say things, you better listen. What I do is give you teachable moments.” However, before his lecture could continue he was interrupted by Kingston and the rest of The New Day.

“We’re not in a mood for you to teach us a damn thing,” said Big E. “This man, Kofi Kingston, has been out here grinding for 11 years. He deserves better.” This lit a fuse under McMahon. “You don’t deserve a damn thing,” yelled McMahon. “Nobody deserves anything!”

After passionate pleas from both Big E and Xavier Woods, McMahon chimed in. “I wish he deserved this. Kofi, I’ve known you a long time. If you were worthy of being in a championship match, it would have happened a long time ago. You’re impressive … One day you’ll be in the Hall of Fame but you won’t be by yourself. The only way you deserve to go is as a part of New Day. At your age, you’ve got these two young bucks for you, so you can take the glory while they do all the work. I wish you were up to par, but you’re not championship material.”

McMahon then quoted WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, who called Kingston a “good B+ player.” This led Kingston to finally voice his mind. “I’m not asking for a WWE title shot at WrestleMania,” said Kingston. “I don’t complain about anything here … and I don’t complain about missing so many special moments. Did you know that I’ve never been trick or treating with my kids? … I wasn’t there because I was here. What I need from you is to tell me what I need to do, so I can do it! These people believe in me.”

However, instead of Vince McMahon responding, he was interrupted by several superstars. Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, The Bar, and Rowan appeared. Vince McMahon then revealed that a gauntlet match will take place next week and Kingston has to win to earn his WWE Championship shot.
