In the final SmackDown before Royal Rumble, AJ Styles and WWE Champion Daniel Bryan had a face-to-face confrontation. With the WWE chairman, Vince McMahon, mediating the segment, Bryan would stay on the outside of the ring. Shielding himself from his Rumble opponent, the WWE Champion berate Styles and McMahon himself, citing that the baby boomer generation has damaged society to the point where Styles is considered a hero. It was a matter of art imitating life, as McMahon does indeed represent the ilk of individuals that focus more their needs than those less fortunate.
