John Cena appeared on the red carpet for an official fan screening of his new film Bumblebee in London and stopped to chat with The Up Coming.
Cena commented on the film’s new take on the Transformers franchise, saying:
Being around an element that created this new universe of such a storied franchise, I think everyone involved in this installment of Transformers knew that it was going to be a fresh, new take on this. We knew what we were going to give fans, but fans weren’t really sure. Now that audiences are starting to see this movie [the reaction is] ‘wow, this is actually really awesome!’ So to see all of that hard work, and everyone’s investment come to life in something that audiences really enjoy; it’s very fun.
Cena also praised co-star Hailee Steinfeld’s acting, and said director Travis Knight did a great job creating such a sympathetic character in Bumblee, which differs from the normal ‘strong, brave and powerful’ demeanor of the Transformers.
Bumblebee opens nationwide on December 21st, but fans can also check out an early one night only screening of the film tomorrow night in select theatres. Cena plays a character named Burns, an agent of Sector 7.
John Cena is also set to return to WWE later this month with several live event appearances on the WWE Holiday Tour; he last appeared in the ring at ‘Super Show-Down’ in Australia in October.
